Teachers in 3rd Grade

Kailey Ivey – This will be my Fifth year at George Washington Academy. I am very excited for third grade. It is going to be a great year of learning and building friendships for the students. We are going to work hard and learn to keep working when it gets harder and tell ourselves, "I may not have this...YET!" In my classroom we respect one another and give everyone a chance to succeed.
I am a true Southern Utah girl. I grew up playing in the red sands and melted crayons on the hot summer sidewalks. My husband, 2 dogs (Odin and Chester) and I love to play outside and go on walks. Outdoors is where we find ourselves the most relaxed and at home. I have a large collection of succulents and cacti that enjoy the summer heat like I do.

I know that this year will be a great one because of each of your children in my class! Thanks for sharing them with me.

Patti Marshall  This is my 5th year at GWA and my 9th year teaching. I began my career in Washington County School District where a taught 1st grade for four years before moving to California. I returned after one year and began working at GWA. I love the charter school environment and our Core Knowledge Curriculum! My degree is in Elementary Education, with special focus areas of ESL, English, and Gifted and Talented Education. I have a Masters in Teacher Leadership. I love encouraging children to be thoughtful and strive for the best they can be. I have two grown children, one that lives in Northern California and one that lives here in St. George. My mom lives here, too.  I love spending time hiking, camping, and playing pickleball when I’m not working.
I am so looking forward to a wonderful new school year and encouraging the learning of our fabulous students!

Kari McCoy – This is my 6th year at GWA and my 19th year teaching. I began my career in Alpine School District at Eaglecrest Elementary where a taught 1st grade and Reading Recovery, for ten years before moving to California. There I was employed at an amazing charter school teaching 2nd and 3rd grade. Education, the teaching/learning process, and kids have always been my passion. I continually strive to stay abreast of current teaching strategies and look forward to the challenges and joys of each new year. I have a minor in music and integrate the power of music into my teaching whenever possible. I will be co-directing the school choir this year, and am excited to share my love of performance with all students here at GWA. When I am not teaching, you will find me spending time with my husband Darryl, and our combined 7 children ages 19-27. They are my best friends and we have a blast together!
I feel it an honor to work at such an excellent school and am looking forward to a spectacular year!

Angie Poulton – My husband and I grew up in Burley, Idaho.  After graduation from Utah State we moved to California for several years.  We have lived in St. George ten years and love the outdoors!  We have four very busy teenagers who are involved in sports at their prospective schools.    My family are my biggest classroom helpers.   Part of the reason I love my career as a teacher so much is because of what a great support they are to me.
This will be my ninth year at George Washington Academy. In the past I have taught first grade and special education.  Last year I had the opportunity to join the third grade team mid-year and loved it!  I fell in love the CKLA curriculum and pedagogy of the children. Students at this age are developing their own sense of humor, talents, and a “growth mindset” in their school and home life.   I do set very high expectations with my students in regards to class room management and goal-setting, but believe strongly they have the tools in place to succeed both academically, emotionally, and through civil responsibility.

I look forward to meeting each of you and discovering together what wonderful concepts we can explore.  Let’s make it a great year together!
